oh no! I HAD one of those...capital one...if I wanted to use it outside my tiny city I basically had to call them and ask permission--not ever again. I had planned a trip to the east coast, booked the plane tickets with them, as well as the hotel---when I get there, the card is BLOCKED and I have to make a call to tell they, yeah I am really really really on a trip outside my city. That is a weeeeeee bit tooo much security for me, and I said a big sayonara to them (no hassle my foot!). My other cc is very good about knowing what kind of purchases I make and what things are very strange--and has only been wrong a few times over the last 15 years.

what you need to do is make sure you keep your own info safe, dont give out stuff to every tom dick or harry you see---and check your bills when you get them--be vigilant!

Cosy what you described there is the other side of the coin. Yes you can see that it is annoying to call and tell them that you are going to a vacation, but anyways capital one would only see you as a number and the service is par. On that note, I think it would be best having a pin numbe assigned to your card.

However, not that many places around the world have chip. Damn a Catch-22!

So a debit card? That is basically a credit card with a pin number, except you have to have the money in your bank account.

junato...it was a royal PAIN to contact them EVERYTIME I wanted to use my card! (I said I live in a tiny city...even going a few miles I am no longer in my city---this would put up a flag and I would get denied---have you EVER stood in a line of people and had your credit card denied????? The FIRST thing people think is "thief!!!!!!!"...not that the stupid cc people have blocked the card because you didnt say mommy may I). And the wait to get thru.....just think, if they denied everyone who used their card when they leave an area--how many HUNDREDS--no thousands of phone calls........yes more than 1 hour wait times...and yes calling even a toll free number from a hotel gets charged (danng hotel

).

so the hassle just wasnt worth it---I have NO issues with my others, and yes they do like it when I travel out of the country to be notified, but if I am going to visit my mom in florida (which I do a LOT)...they have learned I do that from time to time (yes I am sure there is a big notes on my account for my buying preferences..as I have had this discussion with them).

There is a fine line between helpful and hassle, and they crossed it.

We're in the milions if this is still about Sony, 70 million Sony type gamers, that would have to be one hell of a call centre to reply to all the calls

Having said that though, means how many of us will get a stock response? I've changed passwords because of this crap, I only used the PS network to buy games for me PSP, Sony are no doubt atm in talks with lawyers not to help the gamers, but how to not pay cash for the possible intrusion (credit card) and potential repercussions!

Apparently the network is going to be back up and running soon and they are giving all of us PS gamers a free month of PSN Plus(Whoopty doo) and a few free downloads which will be announced to each region as the servers come up. they still maintain that no credit card information was compromised, which is this is a Hacktivist action as has been reported in some sources, makes sense.

I've changed my password so it should be ok but i also use a prepaid card to protect my card details and online subscriptions. Hackers are such a massive pain but i think Playstation should have handled this whole issue far better and warned their members as soon as they new the PSN had been breached.

Once again, Sony has failed and has been hacked AGAIN. This makes for the sixth count in the last few months, 2 of which were regional sites: one japanese and one greek. The others were 2 PSN breaches and a breach in SOE (containing about 25 million accounts directly linked to some MMOs) and this one.
